Experience

My tutoring technique is to ensure that my students understand problem solving techniques while making sure that they have basic skills and a solid foundation for learning. My foundation for teaching is based on a quote by William Butler Yeats "education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." I am a mathematics teacher, as such; I know learning math is not about dumping a bunch of formulas, facts, and theorems into a pail to carry with you. It is about planning solutions, solving problems, and looking for patterns. You need to know more than just a bunch of facts. I teach my students to think critically about the problem, the path you take to get the answer, and the solution. I have thirteen years of experience in teaching high school mathematics, with an additional five years as a college instructor. I have gained insight into how to help my students achieve their goals. It is my duty to teach my pupils that there are multiple ways to solve the same problem. I need my students to leave having a deep understanding of the subject. When I am not tutoring, you can find me watching sports and doing woodwork.
